CITY LAND SALE
SHORTLAND ST. BUILDING SUM OF £12,000 INVOLVED ' One of the oldest buildings in Shortland Street, Brookfield Chambers, owned and occupied by the legal firm of Brookfield, Prendergast and Schnauer, has been sold to the Phoenix Assurance Company, Limited, at a price in excess of £12,000.
The property, which is situated between Yorkshire House and Cromwell Lane, was purchased and remodelled by the present vendors 20 years ago. Ithas a frontage of 2Sft. 4in. and a depth of 130 ft. The building, of two storeys, occupies only half the depth of the section. There, is some evidence that its front portion was erected about 90 years ago, but owing to alterations made since, nothing "visible is left to associate the structure with the earlv days of Auckland.
It is expected that the Phoenix Assurance Company, which has its present offices on the other side of the stiect, will make extensive renovations and additions to the building before occupying it. The sale was effected through the agency of C. F. Bennett, Limited.
