MATERNITY BENEFITS
NURSES REJECT PLAN DECISION AT INVERCARGILL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCARGILL, Thursday A decision not to accept the proposed contract with the Government relating to maternity benefits under the Social Security Act was made tonight at a meeting in Invercargill of private nurses and licensees of private maternity hospitals. There was a representative attendance and the decision was unanimous.
CANTERBURY DOCTORS REFUSAL TO SIGN CONTRACT EBY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHEISTCHURCH, Thursday Refusal to sign in the meantime any contract to operate the maternity benefit under the Social Security Act, was resolved unanimously by members of the Canterbury division of the British Medical Association to-night. The meeting -was largely attended. Dr. J. F. Landreth presided and Mr. P. S. Foster, president of the New Zealand branch, was also present. Another motion, carried with only one dissentient, was: "That this meeting of the Canterbury division of the British Medical Association disapproves of the introduction of the maternity benefit as submitted by the offer of a contract with the Minister, and affirms that the object will be better ensured by a cash benefit to the patient or on her behalf."
