AMERICAN POLICY
AWAKENING URGED EUROPEAN SITUATION SUPPORT FOR PRESIDENT WORLD PEACE CONFERENCE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rdceived May 4, 9.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 4 The former Republican - presidential nominee, Mr. Alfred M. ; Landon, in a broadcast address,' offered to support any - efforts of President Roosevelt to bring about a world peace " conference. He insisted that Herr Hitler's Reichstag speech did not close the door to such action.
"In the event of a general European war, i it will be impossible for the .United States to avoid involvement, therefore Americans cannot remain indifferent to tHe European situation," said Mr. Landon. He declared tlio American people should realise that Mr. Roosevelt, "in so far as he speaks and is able to do so, has abandoned neutrality for the United States." Mr. Landon added that America's failure'to realise the national stake in foreign affairs had caused them to adopt policies on the basis of emotional and spiritual reform. "We have, therefore, acted like the proverbial 'sucker' in a game with professionals," said the speaker. . ,
