TAKANINI HORSES

TEPOTO FINISHES WELL SACCONE IN GOOD FETTLE VALIMEEN RECORDS 1.2 1-5 With the horses going slightly over the distances mentioned on the middle grass at Takanini yesterday, some good times wore recorded, the honours of tho morning being shared by Valimeon, Tepoto, l'alustre and Saceone. It is doubtful if the last-named was ever going better than at present. To [jo to (Coleman) ran six furlongs in 1.15 and came homo full of running. Valiiueen (Quedley) was credited with the best live furlongs, run in 1.2 1-5, and he should make a good showing at Pukekohe. Saccone (Curwen), on the outside of Palustre (Green), was running on strongly at the close of half a mile completed in 495. • Anion and High Sea Anion (.Smith) and High Sea (Boguely) were at close quarters at the end of seven furlongs run in 1.29 1-5. Anion was in front in the early stuges. Tahiti (Smith) boat Pleuron (Boguely) at the finish of five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. Vaalso (Clarke) and Oriental Bay (Smith) worked at a solid pace over tho same distance. Vaalsstar (Kingi) finished in front of Cometariiim (Bartle), to register 1.3 4-5 for five furlongs. Inver (Coleman) ran the last six of seven furlongs in 1.17 1-5, with Siega (Beguely) accompanying him for the last five. Both did their work well. Although Nordic Song (Hatwell) began the better, Solitary (Curwen) appeared to have more in reserve when they finished half a mile in 50 l-ss. Inquisitor (Quedley) again worked sluggishly when 'beaten several lengths by Ivy Willonyx (E. Smith) over five furlongs in 1.3 2-5. This was not surprising, for Inquisitor is not regarded as being partial to short courses. Mile by Brilliant Acre Brilliant Acre, after swerving and unseating W. Walters, ran a mile in 1.47 2-5. Buccaneer (Green) covered his last five furlongs in 1.12 and evidently is being worked with a view to being tested as a stayer as a three-year-old next season. Jack Tar was timed from tho sixfurlong disc to record 1.18 1-5. On the plough Valamito (Inglis) and Bound Up (Collett) ran their last five furlongs in 1.7 3-5. They were not after time. Over the same ground Bachelor King (Kingi) shaded Mario's Acre (Bartle) in 1.5. Arvakur has been taken np again after a short rest, while a number of rising two-year-olds are being worked regularly.

GOOD SCHOOLING HAWKE'S BAIY JUMPERS ' SIR NIGEL SHOWS -PROMISE IDDO AS STEEPLECHASER [by telegraph—own correspondent! HASTINGS, Thursday Several horses with immediate engagements were schooled this morning, and there were a few outstanding exhibitions. Since rain has fallen, many recruits to both hurdling and steeplechasing have been brought in. Although he is 12 years old, Thrasher is showing much better form than before and. with Sir Nigel, he gave one of the best hurdling exhibitions seen at Hastings for some time. Thrasher is to race at Gisborne, and Sir Nigel, whoso jumping has greatly improved, will race at the Manawatu winter meeting. Iddo had his first lesson as a steeplechaser, and gave a finished display, but lie is to contest the hurdle races at Wanganui, and his first attempt over the country may be in the Hawke's Bay Steeplechase. Padishah Over Country Padishah, with G. Beatson in the saddle, pleased in a round and ahalf over the country. For a novice steeplechaser, his two schools to date have been very promising. Polished jumping was staged over half a dozen hurdles by Solio, who, since he last raced, has been operated on, apparently with success, for respiratory trouble. As a hurdler, Red Rufus had only moderate form, but to judge by this morning's school the big fences the Gainscourt gelding should do well, so kindly has he ttfken to this department of racing. ■ Misurina and Parry were associated over a round of the schooling hurdles. The latter, fencing brilliantly, outclassed his mate. Parry has improved appreciably since racing here last month. Summerhill did not put a foot wrong over seven hurdles, but he may not be able to run out long distances. Reipar Discloses Ability Reipar attracted attention by the manner in which he jumped the hurdles, and he appears to have had some practice before coming to Hastings. Hunter's Morn did not' shapo encouragingly last season as a hurdler, but H. S. Greene is instilling confidence into him. At Greenmeadows, The Tramp pleased by the easy and confident manner in which he took his jumps. Rapa Waiata, who will contest the steeplechases at Gisborne, is working satisfactorily. Ho is a sure-footed gelding, and the opposition is weak. Ellerslie Candidate John Charles proved to bo a firstclass hurdler, but as a steenlechasor his form was inferior. He has been out with the hounds, and the vnluo of this experience was emphasised to-day in a schooling lesson over the Greenmeadows country. He will be taken to Kllerslio at the'ond of the month, and it is intended to start him in both tho Great Northerns. His stnble-eompanion, Charade, is pleasing in her Great Northern preparation. What schooling she has done has been finished. She is to be one race prior to the Kllerslio meeting. Two seasons ago, Lord Hereford was a useful hurdler, and when tried over the country last year he showed exceptional promise, but he went amiss. Apparently lie is sound again, and this morning lie gavo a safe exhibition ovor the fences. Curie looks fresh and well and. if anything, ho is schooling hotter than in the past. Ho is to raco at tho Manawatu mooting, but as yet he is burly in condition. Lueulltis Boy has a private reputation as R' hurdler, but, as he was entered for flat racing at Awapuni, lie is likely to make his jumping debut at Napier* or Hastings next month.
