STOCK SALES

WESTFIELD QUOTATIONS TONE AND PRICES FIRMER HOLSTEIN COWS MAKE TO £ll A better tone was found at the Westfield weekly stock sale yesterday and prices for store cattle and some lines of dairy cows and heifers firmed a shade. The yardings were well up to average, and in the dairy section somo outstanding springers attracted competition. The best realisation was £ll for Holstein cows, with Shorthorns and Jerseys making up to £9 10s. Those values showed an increase over last week's prices. A larger number of springers sold at values up to £S 10s and average returns were better in consequence. The demand in the store section was confined mainly to boner cattle, for which there was an improved inquiry. Graziers are still operating with caution, as, although the recent rains have been beneficial, it is problematical whether the full pasture results for winter feed will materialise. The quotations were as follows: — Store Cattle. —Young cows, Rood condition, to '_'s Od; less condition, to i:t I<s (>d; others, to £•_' ss; boner and aged cows, heavy sorts, lo 11 Ts (id; medium, to ss; others, to £'J potter bulls, medium sorts, to id jftsj others, lo £5: meaty killablc cows, Mr,; yearling Jersey heifers, good quality, to £1 7s (id; others, to 10s; herd bulls, ° Dai'ry Cattle.—Jersey cows, good springers, to lit IOs; more backward, to ios; others, to jl\V, Jersey heifers, good springers, to ti) "is; more backward, to £7 f>s: others, to £5; Jersey-cross cows and heifers, good springers to £!> Ios; more backward, to Kt IOs; * others, to Holstein, cows choice springers, to ill; more backward, to X, l.>s; others, to .to ."is; Shorthorn cows and heifers, good springers, to £!• ios; more backward, lo £7 ss; others, to £5; other cows, to £o os.
