FRUIT FOR EXPORT
NORTH CANTERBURY APPLES FINE CONDITION OF CROP [by telegraph —own correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday About 20,000 cases of apples have been received for export from North Canterbury this season. Mr. R. G. I. Hamilton, orchard instructor of the Department of Agriculture, said today that the fruit was in splendid condition, having benefited from the long dry spell and the absence of high winds. The picking of Sturmers, which provide the bulk of the export, will begin next week. OUTPUT FROM OTAGO LARGE SHIPMENTS ARRANGED [by telegraph —own correspondent] BUNEDIN, Wednesday With the fruit export season in tho Roxburgh-Ettrick district in full swing, approximately 50,000 cases will be shipped during tho month. There will be 30,000 cases available for shipment in May. Some excellent crops of Sturmers and other late varieties remain to be harvested. Sturmers account for a large proportion of Otago's export, and it is estimated that fully 30,000 cases will be despatched this year.
