(TRAVEL IN NEW ZEALAND Considerable travel difficulties between Auckland and Wellington had to be 'surmounted 50 years ago, and the arrival of the new Governor, Lord Onslow, and Lady Onslow was the occasion of great doubt as to which method would be preferable. The Nkw Zealand Hekam> of April 13, 1889, contains the following paragraph:— 'VAfter they reach Auckland, their Excellencies' route to Wellington is uncertain. They do not relish the idea of travelling from Auckland to Wellington by the Hinemoa, as they are both bad sailors. An alternative route from Auckland to Napier bv the s.s. \Vaibora is open to them and it has been suggested that they then proceed overland from Napier 'to Wellington. The other alternative route is entirely overland from Auckland to Wellington. ,s
