CAMP AT WHANGAREI

MOUNTED RIVLE REGIMENTS TROOP MOVEMENTS BY RAIL [§llOXl OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Wednesday The Ist (Composite) Mounted Rifles Regiment, consisting of personnel from the North Auckland, Auckland (East Coast), and Waikato Mounted Rifles Regiments, will go into camp at Whangarei from May 6to May 17. The commanding officer will he LieutenantColonel C. ,T. Pierce, M.C., E.D.

This concentration of the mounted regiments at Whangarei will provide interesting exercises of a practical military value, as it is estimated that more than 250 men and horses will have to be moved In* rail from as far south as Opotiki and Taumarunijii. In order to make this possible without necessary fatigue to men and horses, and to enable the horses to be watered and fed on ,the journey, personnel from districts south of Hamilton will concentrate at Frankton Junction station on the afternoon of May 6 and will then proceed by special troop train to Whangarei, further details entraining on the journey north. At the same time, A Squadron of the 4th (Composite) Mounted Rifles Regiment (motorised) will be in camp at Cambridge. This squadron,' which is entirely motorised, comprises men from the three mounted rifles regiments in the Northern Military District. The squadron will carry out training for two days at Cambridge and will then make reconnaissances to Rotorna, Tauranga and Paeroa. Tt will then proceed to Wnipu, North Auckland, and will be engaged b.v infantry of the North Auckalnd Regiment in the vicinity of Wellsford. After bivouacking at Wnipu, the motorised squadron will co-operate in field exercises with the mounted regiments from Whangarei.
