"THE WOMEN"
WITTY AMERICAN SATIRE Clare Boothe's controversial modern satire, "The Women," continues to attract largo audiences to His Majesty's Theatre nightly. The distinguished New York actress Irene Purcell heads the cast of 40 women. Prominent among the supporting players is Mary Dees, double of tho Into Jean Harlow. Miss Purcell has the role of Mary Haines, a weak but sympathetic character, who is forced into the divorce Court by the malicious gossip of a group of society women who term themselves her friends. The play is really a vehicle, however, for the brilliant and uproariously funny dialogue whioh characterises Miss Boothe's works. It is ironical, and even bitter, but always has tho saving grace of humour. It is largely this ability to seo the humorous side of a not very likeable set of characters that has been responsible for the success with which the play has met wherever it has been performed.
