I OPENING OF SEASON i MATCHES NEXT SATURDAY SECRETARY'S FINE RECORD Arrangements in connection with the opening of the season on Saturday next were finalised at last evening's meeting of the Auckland Rugby League. The chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, said that, in order to recognise Mr. Ivan Culpan's 21st year as secretary, Mr. Culpan would officially declare the season open by kicking off the ball in the principal game. Tift! question of the status of senior clubs without sufficient strength of junior teams was raised in a remit from the Junior Control Board, which claimed that several senior clubs did not encourage their juniors. Thereby these clubs infringed (heir right of affiliation to tho senior grade. Mr. D. Wilkie, chairman of tho Junior Control Board, said the matter merited some finality in view of the poor support given junior fotobatl by several senior clubs. On the suggestion of the chairman the matter was referred to the Senior Officers' Association for consideration.

It was decided that tho charges for all matches against the Sydney team during its Easter visit would bo as follows: —Ground: Men, Is Od; ladies, Is (stand, Is extra); children, (id.

. In respect to these matches it was decided that the free list bo entirely suspended. It was pointed out by Mr. Campbell that Auckland's share of the gate proceeds would be devoted to the injured players' fund.

Mr. F. T. McAnenoy reported that arrangements, wore well in* hand for a seven-a-side tournament next Saturday week. A relay race will also be a feature of the programme in connection with the first match against the Australians. • Mr, J. Wilson, secretary of the English Rugby League, advised by cable that both M. Stephens and C. Blarklaus, late of the Rochdale club, had been granted a free clearance to play in New Zealand. They will play this season for the Newton club. The Richmond club advised that, owing to tho appointment of Mr. W. A. Swift as a delegate on the New Zealand Rugby League, his resignation as chairman of the club had been accepted with regret. Messrs. E. W. Cloke, H. Brisbane and H. Averv wrote accepting their appointments ns selectors of the Auckland representative team.
