INVITATION TO DOMINION PROPOSAL TO GOVERNMENT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS A proposal tlint tho Government should invite four prominent women if. international reputation to visit New Zealand as guests of the Government during the centennial celebrations next year is to be made by the Auckland Provincial centennial Council. A decision to approach the Government with this suggestion was made at the meeting of the metropolitan executive of the council last night. The suggestion came originallv from the women's sub-committee, which is desirous of outstanding women being
invited to come to New Zealand to take part in the proposed international women's congress. The names which they suggested were approved by the executive and are to be submitted to the Government. These are:— Mrs. Eveline M. Lowe, chairman of the London County Council. Mrs. Lowe has been a Labour member of the council since 1922, and, as a special honour, she has been elected chairman for this year, which is the council's jubilee year. Lady Denman, wife of a former Governor-General of Australia. She is
president of the Women's Institutes and of the Golf Union, as well as holding other important positions. Miss Margaret Bondfield. Minister of Labour in the last Labour Government. She was the first woman to hold Cabinet rank in Britain. The Duchess of Athol. She was a member of Parliament for 15 years and formerly was Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education. She is a very fine musician.
