ELLERSLIE WORK

LA VIE SPBINTS WELL PROMISING PHILETUS FILLY TOOLEY STREET GOES FREELY Owing to the hard tracks, there was not a great deal of galloping at Ellerslie yesterday morning. The best figures were recorded over half a mile by the two-year-old La Vie. The No. 2 grass track was open for fast work, but the tan was used mostly. On the grass Silver Quex (Gilchrist) beat Royal Grant (Gemmell) by several lengths over six furlongs in 1.17. Bide-a-Wee (Kerr) joined in for the last halfmilo and was going comfortably on terms with Silver Quex at the finish in 51s. The unnamed Vaals —Pliiletus filly (Wiggins) could have improved considerably on her 41 1-os for three furlongs. She shapes very promisingly. The best trial of the morning was credited to La Vie (Gilchrist), who got to the end of half a mile in 495, the first furlong taking 12 1-os. She finished strongly. After schooling, Mai de Mer (Bruce) ran six furlongs in 1.18 2-5, the last half-mile in 50 l-ss. He was being kept up to liis work at the finish. Tea Gong Making Progress Tea Gong (Parsons) easily accounted for Red Falcon (Fearn) over half a mile in 51s, taking 12 2-5s for the first furlong. Tea Gong, who was wide out, could have done better and is giving every encouragement. Red Falcon did not hit out with liis usual freedom. Captain Bruce (Cammick) was sent over a round, averaging a little better than 15s to the furlong. He will probably be put to hurdling when the tracks become easier. On the tan Fleetwind (Gilchrist) and Trevace (Gemmell) finished on terms over si'.x furlongs in 1.21 3-5, the last three of which took 425. Both worked freely and were doing it well at the end. Valspear (Coon) completed the last six of seven furlongs in 1.23. Tooley Street (Kearnts) went freely over half a milt', but was not timed. He has freshened up and should be at his best for Easter. Melvanui (Nesbit) was allotted a working gallop over a round. He hiit out with plenty of dash and continues to make pleasing progress. King Musk (Coon) covered six furlongs in 1.22. the last half-mile in 555. It was a creditable effort for a jumper and King Musk may be capable of a forward showing over hurdles at the Bay off Plenty meeting. Schooling of Jumpers

Aero King (Hearn) was finishing better than Valmint (Fearn) at the conclusion of half a mile in 52 1-os. Aero King looks bright and well after his recent racing. Scot Abbey (Sinton) led Baldric (Williams) over a round in 2.1 1-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.30 1-5. It was an improved showing on the part of Scot Abbey, who is an accomplished jumper. Knight of Australia (Fergus) schooled well over two pony hurdles. Mai de Mer (Sinton) jumped four hurdles in good style, although he did not have much pace. Agog (Sinton) was responsible for a pleasing exhibition over six hurdle!! and has made improvement since being at Ellereliei _ '■ Jonathan (Fergus) was sent over six hurdlej!!, but he did not display a great deal of confidence and nearly came to grief a.fc the last. Thrust (Fergus) gave a fast and clean display over four hurdles and his effort was promising for a beginner.
