VALUE OF THE BIBLE
CRITICISM SURVIVED The fact that the Bible had survived all attempts to abolish it, even when its critics were such men as Voltaire and Thomas Paine, was emphasised bv Colonel the Rev. I'\ J. Miles, secretary of the Russian Missionary Society, in tlx; course of an address at the Baptist Tabernacle last night. The Rev. C. H. Laws presided.. Basing his remarks on the words "Tli.v Testimonies are wonderful," the speaker said that the 6(i works of the Bible were written over a period of 1500 years and yet they formed a perfect unity. They contained God's gradual revelation of Himself to men, and this supreme purpose was evident throughout the whole work. The works of some of the world's greatest writers were steeped in the Scriptures, ami the finest art, architecture and musics were inspired by the Bible.
