WORKER FATALLY HURT MOVING PART OF HILL SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT SCHEME [bt TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday Receiving severe injuries. when struck by a rock that fell on him while working on a school ground improvement scheme at Inglewood this afternoon, Mr. Sydney Richards, aged 59, widower, of Inglewood, died half an hour after his admission to the New Plymouth Hospital. In company with five or six other men, Mr. Richards was engaged on the work of : takjng away v part % of a hill at the- back of the Inglewood school for filling up a gully in furtherance of an improvement scheme . being carried out by the Public Works Department. He was working at the foot of a face about 12ft. high. Without warning a large piece of rock, estimated to weigh about eight or ten hundredweight, broke off and fell on Mr. Richards.

Mr. Richards was the father of Allan Richards, the well-known Taranaki representative Rugby footballer.
