CAR STRIKES BANK
DOUBLE SOMERSAULT TWO MEN SERIOUSLY HURT FOUND LYING ON ROAD [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAUPO, Tuesday The two occupants of an open car were seriously injured when the vehicle turned two complete somersaults after striking a bank at the side of a straight stretch of the Napier-Taupo road, about one mile from the Rangitaiki Hotel this afternoon. They were: — Mr. John Cotterill, aged 24, married, a salesman, of Westshore, Napier, driver of the car, who suffered voiy severe internal and spinal injuries. Mr. ttobert H. Weeks, retired, aged 52, married, of Kennedy Road, Napier, who suffered similar injuries. The car was being driven toward Napier when the accident occurred. It swerved suddenly and struck a bank 2ft. high on the left-hand side of the road, turned completely over twice and came to rest -again on its wheels, facing in the opposite direction. Both the occupants were found lying on the road in a semi-conscious condition, and were taken into the Rangitaiki Hotel. After receiving attention from Dr. S. Armstrong, of Napier, they were taken in an ambulance to the Napier Hospital. The car was very extensively damaged.
