CRICKET CONTROL

CENTENNIAB SCHEME • _____ • CLUBS ASKED TO ASSIST TOURING ENGLISH TEAM VISITORS* ITINERARY REVISED Participation in the Centennial celebrations was discussed at last night's ;: meeting of the management committee ■" of the Auckland Cricket Association The chairman, Mr. W. R. Fee, "stated that arrangements in connection with the pageant. of sport wen? well advanced. The pageant committee required an estimate of the number of cricketers who would take part. Several delegates expressed the opinion that it would bo impossible for clubs to commit their players so far ahead. Hqwever, the chairman pointed out that cricket, as a major sport, should bo well represented. Arrangements for a conference with the clubs were left in the hands of Messrs. L. Colebourne, H. Warneford and the secretary, Mr. E. J. Price.

The chairman reported that it was pro- . i posed to hold a combined sports day at ! Eden Park in April in an effort to assist \ the funds of the Eden Park Board of Con- • trol. The extensive improvements which had £ been made ior the benefit of both cricket" and Rugby were mentioned chair- - ' man, who said that both sports would co- j operate to stage an attractive programme. Arrangements were left in the hand 3of j Messrs. W. R. Fee, E. R. Sutherland, and L. B. Schnauer. Advice was- received from the New Zea- - land Cricket Council that a revision of the itinerary of Sir Julien Calin's team had been made. This was di}e to a match having been arranged at Rdtorua. -The revised itinerary provides for the team" arriving in Auckland on March 10, the visitors to play < at Eden Park on March 17, 18 and 20. The touring side will leave Auckland by train on March 23 and will siil for England from Wellington the following day. " i Complaint was made regarding the state . > of the junior wickets at the J)omain. Several ' ( members expressed the opinion that the® wickets were dangerous. It was felt that,., i the value of the coaching ischeme now in operation was being nullified by the players ? .-, having to bat on »uch wickets. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of" Messrs. H. Duncan and N. C. Snedden. r ; Congratulations on Auckland retaining the" , Plunket Shield were received from the Can- \ terbury association. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY / ] Third Grade.—A section: Middlemorc v.
