RUGBY CLUB'S LOSS

TRANSFER TO CHRISTCHUROH COACH OF NORTH SHORE TEAM The North Shore Rugby Club has suffered a. decided loss through the transfer to Christchurch of Mr. T. Lawn, who coached the forwards of the senior team last season. Mr. A. G. Alexander, chairman of the executive of the club, paid a fine tribute to Mr. Lawn's ability, when at the complimentary farewell dinner last week he expressed the opinion that Mr. Lawn's coaching last season was the best for many years, if not in tllo history of the club. In adding some remarks, Mr. H. Frost, president of the Auckland Rugby "Union, stressed the necessity for players making and keeping themselves fit for the game. Mr. A. A. Baker, chairman of the management committee of the imioji, said that body was greatly indebted to Mr. Lawn as one of those who had resuscitated the North Shore Club. In> making reference to Mr. Lawn's appointment to the managership of tha firm of Booth, Macdonuld and Company, Mr. Baker said Auckland was

losing an outstanding citizen. "It is astonishing how many heads of businesses throughout New Zealand are old Rugby footballers," said Mr. Baker. "The number of lessons they learned on the playing field has fitted them for filling such important positions." Acknowledging a presentation from tho North Shore Club, Mr. Lawn said he was not a great player, but he thought he possessed some knowledge, and he-always insisted upon discipline and physical fitness. "It is no use talking tactics until you are really fit for the game," he said. Tho speaker concluded bv asking players to ho loyal to their club, to play tho game, and not become dispirited over a few losses. Mr. Lawn will be no stranger to Christchurch, as he formerly played in tho senior grade tliera for the Sydenham and Technical Old Boys' Clubs.
