POLICE FAREWELL
AUCKLAND SUPERINTENDENT [BV TELEGRAPH —-own correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday A farewell to Superintendent .T. Cummings, who has already taken charge of the xVuckland police district, was extended at a gathering of police officers of the Palmerston North district, of which he was formerly in control. He was presented with a silver tea service. References were made by SeniorSergeant J. Mclntyre to the loss .that the district had suffered through tho transfer of Mr. Cummings, under whose leadership a very high _ standard of Eroficiency had been maintained. His nowledge of law had always been made available to officers and men stationed in the district. Mr. Cummings, in reply, emphasised the necessity for efficiency in the force and spoke of the co-operation received from all ranks. It spoke well for the service that there had been no complaints as to the conduct or efficiency of members of the force in the district during his term.
