FATALLY SCALDED
CHILD OF IB MONTHS UPSET TUB OF HOT WATER MOTHER'S MOMENTARY ABSENCE [bt telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI. Friday Severe scalds resulted in the deatla in the Whangarei Hospital last night of Caroline Bushby, daughter of Mr. W. L. Bushby, of Whakapara. The child was playing on the porch of her parents' home, where her mother had left a tub jof hot water in which were clothes on a stool. 3li-s. Bushby was going away for more water when she heard a bump and, rushing back, found Caroline lying on the floor, the boiling water and clothes having poured over her. She was severely scalded from the throat to the thigs. An inquest was opened to-day by the district coroner, Mr. G. H. Morrish. Dr. D. E. L. Clay, assistant medical superintendent at the Whangarei Hospital, said the child was extensively burned about the chest, shoulders, neck and abdomen. Death was due to shock. The inquest was adjourned.
