French Translation Discussed

PLAY BY DR. HODGE

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] LONDON. Feb. 7 The New Zealand dramatist, Dr. Merton Hodge, returned to London last week from Paris, where he discussed with Virginia Vernon, the translation into French of his adaptation of Olive Schreiner's "The Story of An African Farm," which recently had a short run in London. It is likely that the play may be produced in Paris at l'Theatre des Arts in about two months' time, by M. Andre Moreau, who produced "The Wind and the Rain" at the same theatre last year. » An American option has been taken out on "The Story of An African Farm," and it is possible that Dr. Hodgo may go to New York to discuss its production there with Mr. Stanley Harris. The adaptation is shortly to be published. , r At the New Theatre last year, Mr. Basil Dean, the producer, did not follow entirely Dr. Hodge's adaptation, and the production consequently differed in several respects from the New Zealander's idea of the most successful method of telling the story from the stage. When the play is published it will be Dr. Hodge's adaptation w out the alterations introduced at the Now Theatre. . ~ . Dr. Hodgo has -written another play. At the moment the actress to whom the leading part has been promised is already engaged. Dr. Hodgo is making no comment on his new work until negotiations for its production have 1 been coucluded.
