BOWLING TOURNEY
PAIES AT ROTORUA FINAL MATCH THIS MORNING TWO HOME TEAMS SURVIVE [ui* TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Friday Post-soction play in the Rotorua Bowling Club's open pairs tournament took an unexpected turn to-day, when Livingstone (Qnehunga) and Higginbothani (Ponsonby), who had gone through section play unbeaten, and Walker (Auckland) were defeated. Two Rotorua teams, French and Pakes and R'owe and Budd. reached tho final, which will be decided to-morrow morning. It is the first time that two Rotorua teams have met in the fin.il of the tournament, Rotorua never previously having won the pairs title. In the second round of the post-section series in tho morning Budd, who was defeated by Walker in the final last year, again met the Auckland Club rink and had his revenge for last year's defeat by winning the match, 20 —10. Budd met Higginbotham in the semi-final, and excellent drawing by tho Kotorua team more than compensated for the Ponsonby skip's deadly accuracy in driving, Rotorua winning by 24 points to 10. ' Pakes and French played a brilliant game against Robertson and Livingstone in the third round, and from early in the match it was evident that they had the measure of the two strong Onehunga players. French on the whole was a better lead than Robertson, while Livingstone appeared to be off his game and played many weak drawing shots. The final result was 22-—l2 in favour of Pakes.
