INTER-CLUB RACING NO SURPRISE RESULTS WATER CONDITIONS CHOPPY Five trophies for inter-club competition were decided under the control of tlie Auckland Bowing Association on Saturday afternoon as a part of Physical Fitness Week. The Tamuki Drive course was used, all the events starting at the Hobson Bay bridge and finishing olf the Akarana Yacht Club's boathouse. The fresh north-easterly breeze mado the water conditions somewhat choppy, so that raring over a mile and a-half was impossible. Altogether 22 crews took part in the afternoon's racing. There were no surprises in the results, most of the crows rowing true to the form previously displayed. The starter and umpire was Mr. S. H. Bucliuuun, 'chllo Messrs. C. G. Ilerdmau and C. C. Cairns were the judges. Results wero as follows: — MASON CUP Open Maiden Fours.—St. George's (C. Hilliard, E. Monds, 11. Tong, E. Biggin), 1; Waitcmata (W. McGochie, M. Herewini, C. Cooper. J. Dclainoro). 2; University (J. J. Carroll, ■A. Godfrey. It. Ockelford. E. W. Henderson), a. Getting away to a very oven start the crews were still togothor at the quarter distance. University then moved away and had a slight load, with St. George's handy and the rest of the crews woll up. At the Parnell bridge St. Gcorgo's was In front, with Waitemata and Auckland No. 2 not far behind. Auckland No. 2 had trouble with its seats and dropped out, leaving St. George's to win by three lengths from Waiteniata, with University three lengths away. STEWART RE ID CUP Open Eights.—Waiteniata (T. C. Conway, 11. Spoon. T. Gallagher, F. A. Weaver. J. Sweeney, A. E. Hogg, C. 11. Cairns. K. Vincent), 1; Auckland (R. B. Smith. C. Chamberlain, D. Siinmond, H. Jellie. W. Baverstock, C. Beant, V. Walker, G. Oxspring), 2; St. George's (C. Billiard, E. Piggin, It. Speer, E. Monds, H. Tong, E. Dustin, W. L. Carr. P. McNab). 3. Only three crews started In this race. All moved-away well, but Waitcmata soon took the lead from Auckland and St. George's. Tho field was strung out crossing Hobson Bay, with Waitomata leading Auckland and St. Gcorgo's in that order. Auckland gained on Waitemata, but down tho straight the latter sprinted and won by two lengths. St. George's was third, three-quarters of a lenutb back. CARO CUP Maiden Fours, under lOst. —Auckland (O. Cossey, G. Hewlett, C. Kidd, C. Briorloy). 1; West End (N. V. Conway, L. Fisher, J. Rasmusscn, J. Kelly), 2; Waitemata (R. Mikkelson, W. Churchos. C. B. Molloy, D. F. Dustin), 3. Auckland established a lead of half a length after 100 yards and maintained it to the Parnell Bride, with West End and Waitemata following. The leader increased its advantage down the straight to win by four lengths from West End, with half a length between second and third. WEST END JUNIOR CUP Junior Eights.—Waitemata (J. Sweeney. A. E. Hogg. C. It. (Cairns, K. Vincent, J. S. Jones. S. Billings. A. J. Carbines, W. J. Brown). 1; Auckland (J. Dickson W. McGregor. H. Jellie. C. Beant. T.. Murfitt D. Elwood, W. Baverstock. D. Moir), 2; West End (W. C. Parnell, B. S. Tupp, L. Skinner, W Goodwin, J. C. Howe, M. D. Conway, H. M. McDonald. J. 11. Barton), 3 This was the best raco of the day. Waitemata early had two lengths' lead. Auckland was last at the start, but settled down to a steady swing with a slower slide and soon passed West End. which was lying _ second. At tho reef Auckland gained on Waitemata. Both crews lost a little by bad coxing at this stage Auckland sprinted down the straight and ulmost drew level, but Waitemata staved off the challenge to win by a canvas. BRETT CUP ! Open Fours.—Waitcmata (T. C. Conway, H. Spoon, T. Gallagher, F. WeaverL 1; St. George's No. 2 (J. Coote, F. Dustin, R. Speer, D St George), 2, Auckland No. 2 (0. Cossey. G. Hewlett. C. Kidd, B. Brierley), 3. This race was rowed in clinker boats, the occasion being the first for a number of years. The event attracted the biggest field of the day eight crews facing the starter, \\aiteroata went to the front early and looked like a winning crew from the beginning. St. ueorge s No. 2, stroked by. J. Coote. showed out next. Waitemata. gained the verdict by J-hree lenprths, with St. George s No. - beating Auckland No. 2 for second position by one length.
