TAREE DISQUALIFIED MANU TAKES TROPHY THIKD, KACE INCIDENT SAILING CHAMPIONSHIP . 'As the result of decisions reached by the officials late last night, the world's 18-footer- sailing championship trophy has been awarded to the Auckland yacht Manu, which represented the Richmond Cruising Club and was sailed by G. Chamber! in. This sensational result has como about through the upholding of a protest against tho Sydney yacht Taree, owned by Mr. W. Scahill and sailed by B. Swinbourne, which was holder of the championship and won the third and final race of the series on Saturday afternoon in convincing style. Alleged Breach The protest was entered after the race by the Auckland boat Limerick (Royal Akarana Yacht Club), owned by Mr. C. Moore and sailed by S. Riley. It- was alleged by the Limerick's party that at the' start of Saturday afternoon's race the Taree committed a breach of the rule requiring a boat on the port tack to give way to ono starboard tack. Protests relating to both the second and third faces were considered for the greater part of yesterday and last evening by the Appeals Committee, which consisted of Messrs. T. McKniglit XAuckland), J. B. L. Jukes (Wellington) and S. Higgins (assistant-secre-tary of the New South' Wales Sailing League). This committee was appointed by the Sailing Committee, which was composed of both Australian and New Zealand officials. Official Statement The following statement was made by the Appeals Committee last night:— "An appeal by the Jeanette against her disqualification in the second race was dismissed. "A protest by the Jeanette against the St. George in the second race was dismissed. .."A protest by the Irina against the Taree in the second race was dismissed. "The Shamrock was disqualified for being over the line at the start of the third race. • "The Malvina was disqualified by the •umpires for hitting a mark in the third rare. "A protest against the Taree by the Limerick for a' breach of the port and starboard tack rule in the third race was sustained. Taree was disqualified. '"The Manoa was commended for withdrawing after committing a breach of the rules in the third race." The Final Placings Adjustment of the placings and points as the result of the various disqualifications gives the total points for the series of three races as follows: Points Place Mann (Richmond Cruising Club} 397 1 JTianeUe (Ponsonby Cruising Club) .. .. 352 2 ft. George (Sydney) .. 317 3 Taiee (Sydney) .. .. 158 4 Vaairia (Richmond Cruising Club) 126 5 Arline (Wakatere Boating Club) 39 6 Ripiide (Point Chevalier Sailing Club) . .. 34 7 Mercedes ' (Pevonport Yacht Club) 18 8 Manene (Herne Bay Yacht Club) '. 16 9 Irina (Takapuna Boating Club) 7 10 Manaia (Richmond Cruising Club) .. .. .. 1 11* Ponty (Otahuhu Sailing Club) 1 11* •Equal. The Manu won the first race, and finished seventh in the second race and third in the last race. Disqualifications gave her fifth place in the second race and second place in the third race. The Taree finished fourth in the first race, third in the second race, and first in the third race, but was disqualified. - The Jeanette finished second in the first race, first in the second race, but was disqualified, and second in the third race. ■ v
