SCHOOL CINEMA TAXED
BOARD SEEKS REFUND Objection to the imposition of a heavy duty on the importation of a cinema projector given by the Parents' Association for use in tho Rangiora High School was expressed at the meeting of tho High School Board. The board will make a protest to the Government and ask for a refund of the charges. Tho principal, Mr. J. E. Strachan, who purchased the projector from New York, said that originally the charges for bringing the projector into tho country were to bo 72 per cent of the original cost of the machine. This charge had since been reduced, on a protest being made, to .30 per cent of the original cost. "My point is this," said Mr. Strachan. "Here is a body which offers to make a Government iustitution a present of useful apparatus such as. this, and tho Government fines this body £l2 for the privilego. That is what is amounts to."
