Friday The scrub fire which has been working toward the State forestry plantation at Taupo since Monday has assumed alarming dimensions. On the right-hand side of the main highway from Taupo to Napier the fire is progressing in a north-westerly direction toward the forest. On the left it had commenced to drive up the slopes of Tauhara Mountain, but a change of wind to the north-wes took the flames more toward P ' of men was immediately sent to the danger area and energetic methods were adopted to resist the fire. A fire-break two miles ra lengtti was cut with the assistance of a bulldozer from the foot of the Tauhara Mountain to the Napier highway, number of men employed by the btate Forestry Department are standing by in case of emergency. Tauhara Mountain provides a wonderful spectacle to-night, with the flames gradually climbing up to the outlying spurs. The wind to-night has practically dropped.
