Among the Thorns

DEAR BOYS AND GIRLS,— TIKE a great many of you Grey Malcolm and I went picking blackberries j, last week-end, and what excitement we had, too. Of course, Grey Malcolm, being a cat, preferred to go stalking mice in the long grass and rolling in the hay at the end of the paddock; but occasionally he would saunter over to the hedge where I was busily picking the little round black fruit. Then he would sit up and watch with his big yellow eyes laughing as I scratched my arms and hands or fell headlong into a very prickly bush. Not that I really needed to fall into the bushes, but whenever I sea a big, fat, juicy blackberry L always feel I must pick it or die in the attempt. And it seems very strange how often those big fat ones are perched away up at e top of the bush, merrily dancing in the wind just out of the reach of my fingers. Grey Malcolm thought it was a great joke when I couldn't reach them, and once when I was balancing on a wobbly stone he decided he would pounce at my legs. The result, I think, was even more than he expected, for the stone toppled over and down came blackberries and all on top of that wicked grey puss. However, after an hour or so of fun we eventually wended our way home with a brimming basket of berries and any amount of nasty stinging scratches! Loads of love and happiness to you all from o)<=>o<=3-o'C=»'o<=>o<=>()'C=>()<=3'l
