SWIMMING TUITION

SCHEDULE FOR WEEK-END ' FREE ADMISSION TO BATHS Inspired by the Physical Fitness Week greater numbers of reople in the province are anticipated by the Auckland branch of the National Committee of Swimming and Life-saving to learn to swim before the pampaign closes at the end of the month. Instruction will be carried out at various centres over the week-end, when the tides and weather conditions promise to be favourable for teaching swimming. The City Council has granted to learners free admission tc the Tepid, Parnell and Shelly Beach Baths until next Wednesday. The hrurs -f6r which these privileges operate are as follows:—Tepid Baths: Daily, 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.; Sunday, 8.30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Parnell and Shelly Beach Baths: Daily, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Owing to the New Zealand snrf championships being held at Milford Beach to-day and to-morrow, there will bq no instruction at Brown's Bay and Takapnna Beach s. AUCKLAND CARNIVAL LARGE ENTRIES RECEIVED Large entries have been received by tltie Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association v. for its carnival to be held at the Tepid Baths next Thursday evening as part of the Physical Fitness Week. The presence of the Ohineinutu and Whakarewarcwa. teams from Rotorua,, and the Whangarei representation in the lritercentre challenge relay rnce should arouse great' interest. The visiting teams are expected to extend fully the Auckland competitors and an exciting contest is assured. Plenty swimmers INTERMEDIATE BOYS' RECORD A successful attempt to lower his own Dominion JOO yards intermediate boys' backstroke record of 72 3-5s was made by Warren Hart, a membc; of the East Christchurco Amateur Swimming Club, at the -Tepid Baths vesterday. He covered the distance in 72 1 -ss. The swim was under the control of officials of tho Auckland Swimming Centra and application will, be made to the New Zealand Council to have the time officially recognised as a record. SOUTH SUBURBAN SCHOOLS The Otahuhu Amateur Swimming Club will conduct the south suburban schools' swimming championships at King's College pool. Middlemore, to-day. Two hundred and fifty entries have been received and heats, for the various events will be commenced at noon. Special events will be the champion of champions for boys and girls under 14 years of age, and two secondary schools championships. The Mayor of Otahuhu, Mr, C. R. Petrie, M.P-, will open the carnival at 2 p.m. SACRED.
