TEMPERANCE WORK
Ponsonby.—The first meeting of the year of tho Ponsonby branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held recently. Sister Jessie presided and extended a special welcome to Mrs. Have and Miss S. Pyle. Miss Pyle gave a message of greeting from the Honolulu union, and also described the home of Frances Willard. As this was the centenary of the birth of Frances Willard, talks on her life were given by Mrs. Bragg, Mrs. Hardy, Mrs. R. Joiner and Sister Jessie. White ribbons were distributed among the members in honour of tho occasion. Afternoon tea was served by Miss Kitt and Miss Runciman. Auckland Evening.—There was a good atendanco at the first meeting of the year of tho Auckland evening branch, at which Mrs. J. H. Patterson presided. Several new members were welcomed, and also Miss Pyle, of Honolulu. Miss Van Kenan was appointed delegate to the Dominion convention, which will be held in Wellington. The centenary of the birth of Frances Willard was observed, Mrs. Hugh Kaspar speaking on lier life and work.
