Friday Prices were well below vendors' expectations on the first day of the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual ram fair. Vendors in most cases were prepared to meet the market, but buyers operated within very defined limits. Mr. Q. Donald topped the market for stud Romneys, Mr. William Rayner paying 90gns for a splendid ram, while 7'/ a gns was the top price for flock Lincolns. In flock Romneys, Mr. Q. Donald sold a show pen for 15gns. It was a disappointing sale. A considerably better tone prevailed at the second day of tho Masterton ram fair and values well on a par with vendors' expectations realised for flock Southdowns. The entry was well in excess of last year but the bulk of the offering was disposed of either under the hammer or by private treaty. Prices for flock Southdowns ranged from 2gns to 28gns, with tho average about 4gns. Stud Southdowns sold consistently well, the top price being 82gns, realised by Mr. W. J. The second best price was 30s 2d, and the third 30s. Several lines reached 29s to 29s 6d. Next best in two tooths ranged from 26s to 27s 8d; medium, 19s 3d to 255; small and poor, IGs to ISs 6dl; best four tooths.' 30s 4d; others, 22s 4d to 28s 6d; poor, 15s to 18s 9d; six-tooths, 18s 6d to 25s 4d; four-year-olds, 18s 4d to 19s Gd; five year, tops, 15s to 19s 4d; medium, 12s 6d to 14s 3d; low and poor, 9s Gd to 12s: six-year-olds. best, 13s to 14s 9d; others, 8s to lis.
