[THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE BUSIEST DAY THIS YEAR The largest number of transactions gince the reopening of the market this year was put through on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Business was well spread, and the undertone was a shade firmer.

The gilt-edged section again was active, with Government loans and local body debentures both sharing in & strong demand. Among the banks, New Zealands were well sought at late rates. After an advance -in South British Insurances, sellers withdrew.

A feature- of ths classified group was the recovery in Auckland Gas in three transfers. Guarantee Corporation and Xeyland-O'Brien also improved, but Pominion Breweries were easier. Offers for Australian Glass rose to £5 15s without attracting holders. Several other leading Commonwealth issues, however, lost ground. Dominion industrials were steady, but New Zealand Newspapers showed a decline on ifche previous sale last year.
