FAIR TO FINE AT sFIRST .. —— TEMPERATURES RISING The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government. " meteorologist last evening were as follows:—An anti-cyclone is still centred to the north, while a rather deep depression covers the south-west Tasman Sea. The forecast is for variable winds at first in the far north,, otherwise moderate to strong north-west to northerly prevailing. Seas rather; rough to rough about Cook Strait and\ the far south, and rising generally south of Cape Egmont; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate, but increasing northerly to north-westerly winds and moderate, but rising seas. The weather is likely to be mainly fair to fine at first, but rain in the far south-west and south, and gradually extending northward over western districts. Temperatures rising. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST MAINLY FAIR AND MILD ; The Government meteorologist issued to the Hekat,d last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light variable winds, tending northerly and ..later freshening somewhat. The weather is likely to be fair. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The day was cloudless and the night clear, the wind being light from the south. The maximum temperature was 70 the minimum GO degrees. Barometric pressure was steady. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.06 in. Midnight, Thursday . ~ 30.03 in. Wellington.—The weather was fair and mild, with a fresh north-westerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 65.2 degrees. The barometer reading was 29.929 in. Christchurch.—The day was fine and warm with a strong easterly breeze in the morning. Later the wind dropped and the temperature rose considerably, the maximum being 63.9 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.80im and was falling. _ Dunedin.—The day was fine and warm with only a slight breeze from the south-west. The temperature reached a maximum of 64 degrees. Toward the end of the afternoon, however, the* sky became heavily overcast and there was a light shower. The barometer fell steadily to 29.69 in.
