The job of the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, was to-get into touch with the representatives of the farmers and get definite evidence of any shortage, it was not sufficient for the represents-' tivea of the farmers just.to make political speeches, "We want definite evidence where the shortage is, what labour is (required, and that the conditions, are such that men will be encouraged to take up tliH work," said the Prime Minister. "If.those men have not already got wives* and families we expect them to have them stnd the country expects that of them, therefore they ; are entitled to decent conditions of work.
"That involves housing on and the Minister of Finance will see" that additional funds are mads avapj able for that purpose." #
