I LIFTS FROM MOTORISTS COVERS OVER 3000 MI&S' [from our own correspondent] MELBOURNE, Feb. ft With 15s in his pocket Mr. Reford Corr, a theological student at Ormond College, Melbourne University, set out four weeks ago to £ 'hitch-hike" hu way to the conference of the Student Christian Movement at Mittagon"New South Wales. With zljcl left ho returned to Melbourne a few davs ago, having seen in the interval some of Australia's finest scenery in travels of more than 3000 miles.

Mr. Corr spent 5d at the outset of his journey to travel to the suburb of Coburg, on the road to Sydney. He "thumb-waggled" passing cars, 'and four and a-half hours later was in Albury, nearly 200 miles away in«+ across the New South Wales border Two lifts in fast sedan cars had <ri ve n him a splendid start on his journmT With the aid of lifts in four different motor transports Mr. Corr next da? reached Mittagong, 80 miles south of Sydney. Having some free time after th« conference Mr. Corr decided to sea the eastern coast. Lifts in passing can took him to Brisbane in four days froir Mittagong. But he spent only two davs in Brisbane because of the hole that living in a city was making i n hi* slender resources.

He went to Toowomba by truck and through the courtesv of a succes sion of motorists he visited the New" South Wales towns of Armidale New castle and Yass. Throughout his travels Mr Co-. spent his nights at farmhouses or hotels, receiving meals and a bed mora often than not for nothing. He sad he had only to mention that he was a poor student trying to see something of the Australian countryside durinl his vacation, and immediately neoDlf could not do enough for him Two drivers who gave him lifts took the precaution to tell him that thev were well armed.
