THEFT DENIED

CITY STREET INCIDENT

CHARGE AGAINST SEAMAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL : Allegations that on February 7 he stole a gold watch and chain, valued at £l2, from the person of James Trubuhovich, were denied by Robert Allen Khan, a seaman, aged 34 (Mr. Aekins), in the Police Court yesterday beforo Mr. C. It Orr Walker, B.M. Constable I. V. Jones said that at 10.25 on the night of February 7 he was on duty in Federal Street and walking toward Wellesley Street. Complainant was about 10 yards ahead. Three men came round the corner from Wellesley Streot and accused, one of them, made a grab at the complainant, and came toward witness. 'Accused, when accosted by witness, had a watch and chain in his hand. Accused said: "I went to shako hands: with the man and the watch and chain caught in the button of the sleeve of my coat." The complainant, in evidence, said that accused, on coming round the corner, grabbed witness' watch and chain and witness, grasped accused's wrist, but he pulled away. When accused saw the policeman he gave the watch and chain'back to complainant. Accused was not going to shake hands. Complainant said he had never seen accused before. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
