A MAORI'S WALLET
PROBATION FOR OFFENDER When Victor Lynn Norm, aged 32, appeared for sentence yesterday before Mr. Justice Fair-for having been associated with another man in stealing a wallet of notes irom a Maori, his counsel, Mr. Henry, was granted leave to withdraw his motion for a new trial. Mr. Henry said it was practically certain that this man, if given probation, would be able to return to his previous occupation.
His Honor said ho had como to the conclusion that it would be possible to grant probation. There had been some mitigating circumstances, and accused had had no previous serious offence for the last 12 years. At the same time, the place he was frequenting did not reflect any credit on him. He would he released 011 probation for two years on condition that he took out prohibition orders against himself and remained in such employment as was open to him.
