£86,000 FOR JANUARY t, /';!'■ ——— THREE COMPANIES IN NORTH POOR PRODUCTION OUTLOOK [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Thursday Three of the dairy companies operating in the Whangarei district will be paying to suppliers about £86.000 on account of January butter-fat supplies. The Whangarei Company will pay out £40,139. a substantial increase from the £35.221 paid out for the same month of last year Payments to date for this season total £198,336, or £22,000 more than for the same period of the previous season. Mr. W. Millington, manager of the company, said that although the-recent rains had served as a check for the rapid decline, production was back to where it was before the rains. A marked decrease in butter-fat received at the factory was shown With the continuation of the present weather, the prospects for Ifoe remainder of the season were by no means encouraging, as the drying winds "arid cold weather were against any prolific growth of grass. The, Hikurangi Company shows a decrease in payment to suppliers of £616 as compared with the same month last year. This decrease, with the guaranteed price at 2d more than last year, gives an indication of the very drastic decrease in production in the northern part of th£ Whangarei district. The pay-out for last month's butter-fat supplies will be £28,022. The total advances for the year show a slight increase, being £139,241, compared with £134,774 for the corresponding period last sea-

son. The Maungatnpere Dairy Company will be advancing £17,720, compared with £15.803 for January, 1938. To date this season the total is £00,309 against £81,293 at this time last year.
