FAMOUS SWEDISH ACTRESS FIRST WOMAN APPOINTED Three women of different nationalities have received appointments recently which, in each case, is the first to be conferred upon a woman. From Sweden comes news of the appointment, of Miss Pauline Brunius, a famous Swedish actress, as director of the State subsidised National Theatre in Stockholm, the most important theatre in Sweden.''" Miss Brunius is the first woman to fill such a post. Then there is Madame Marie Gevors, a distinguished poet and writer of Belgium, who has been appointed a member of tlio Belgian Academy. She is the first woman to receive this honour from tlio academy, which is a very exclusive body. Finally there is tho appointment of Miss Margaret Longhurst as keeper of the department of agriculture and sculpture' at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She is the first woman to become keeper of any department in any of the national musoums in Great Britain.
