CROSSING COLLISION
ENGINE AND LOBRY DAMAGE TO LOCOMOTIVE TRAIN DELAYED HALF-AN-HOUR A collision between the engine of a suburban passenger train and/'a motortruck occurred at the level crossing at Totara ATenue, New Lynn, shortly after two o'clock yesterday afternoon. No one was injured, but the train, bound for Henderson, was delayed half an hour owing to damage to the engine. No other service was interrupted. The train, which had slackened speed, was entering the New Lynn station when the accident occurred. The truck, driven by an employee of J. J. Craig, Limited, Mr. Francis Sinclair Yates, of 6 Edgerley Avenue, Epsom, was travelling toward the premises of the Amalgamated Brick and Tile Company, Limited, to be loaded. The front of the truck was struck by the side of the engine, the radiator being wrenched off. The locomotive was disabled and the five carriages were transferred to a goods train •which reached New Ljim soon after the mishap. In this way the delay to the train was minimised. The damaged engine was able to return to Auckland under its own power for repairs.
