WOODVILLE CLUB

HAWKE'S BAY VISITORS CONTINGENT OF 23 SAPLING STAKES ENTRIES WELL-BRED CANDIDATES « . ... . „ i. [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] HASTINGS, Wednesday A team of 20 gallopers from Hawke's Bay is to race on Friday at Woodville. They will be reinforced for the second day, Saturday, by Sir Nigel, Earl's Court and Sternchase.

Two novices in Hal ley and The Ring will represent the northern part of this district, both having placed performances to their credit. However, both have been in this grade for the past two seasons. Tho Ring is galloping the better, and is expected by her connections to win on the trip. Boatsong is at the top of his form. Ho has two engagements on Friday and, in spite of 10.10, he looks to be better suited in the Oringi High-weight Handicap, as ho is asked to concede Old Bill 61b. in the Kumeroa Handicap. Patches, whose recent form has been good, is also in this race.

Master Oyklon, Big Dook, Tiger Gain and Lady Furst are a strong team in tho Woodville Cup. Master Cyklon is duo for a win. His track work has been up to his best standard, and ho looks very bright. Under 8.5, he is expected to make a better showing than of late. Question of Lady Furst Big Dook hitherto has found ton furlongs just a little too far. However, ho is back to winning form and may do better than Tiger Gain, who now is in his eleventh year. Lady Furst was beaten on the first day at Hawera, but finished stoutly to dead-heat with Dungarvan on the second day. There is a possibility that she will not start, as her owner-trainer, Mr. H. Neagle, is in hospital. Gayest Son, Sunola and Flying Flag are in the Sapling Stakes. The firstnamed is full-brother to Gay Son and, although he has shown decided galloping ability, the big field for an inexperienced colt may tell against him. Sunola, full-brother to Round Up, also can gallop, but he may be a better colt with more time. He is held on lease from Mr. A. Symes, and will be bracketed with Gayest Son and Flying Flag. The last-mentioned was second at Ashhurst to Judgment, and on that form holds fair prospects. Brunhild Lightly Weighted

Hunting Mint, Haile Selassie and Classical are to contest the President's Handicap. On recent form, Brunhild will not De greatly in favour for the Ruahine Handicap. However, this four-year-old .mare, with only 7.1 to carry, last sea-, son was second to Alma in the Canterbury Jockey Club's Stewards' Handicap, and in similar place in the Wellington Stakes to Aniigo. Solaria is the other Hawke's Bay sprinter in the race. Imogen, Jacynth and Elettra are in the County Handicap, and of the trio, Elettra may prove the best. NEW COURSE RECORDS AJAX AT CAULFIELD +. MAN.OLIVE'S mile gallop NUFFIELD REPORTED AMISS (Received February 15, 9.0 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 15 The crack . Victorian three-year-old Nuffield is reported to be amiss and may not compete at the Melbourne Autumn Carnival. Galloping at Canlfield yesterday Ajax established a course record of 1.27J for seven furlongs. Manolive broke the mile track record at Epsom to-day by covering the distance in 1.40 J. JOE LOUIS SPRINTS TRAINING AT WOODVILLE HEAVY RAIN YESTERDAY [by telegraph OWN correspondent] PALMER STON NORTH, Wednesday Heavy rain was falling in Woodvillf? at 9.30 o'clock this morning and it should make an appreciable difference to the going. There was little galloping, but Joe Louis (Orange) and Golden Enterprise (Gilmore), who is to start on Saturday, were speeded up on the course proper, where the trestles were 15ft. out. The going was firm, but thanks to the thick sward the horses hit out boldly. After running the first furlong in 13 l-ss, they came homo smartly to complete half a mile in 51 3-ss. With an advantage in weight Golden Enterprise appeared to be going easily, but Joe Louis was under a fair hold. Joe Louis will be ridden by P. Burgess, Golden Enterprise by S. Anderson, and Big Wave, from the same stable, by R. Marsh.

Lady Furst and Dungarvan arrived in Woodville on Sunday and they look none the worse for their racing at Hawera. H. S. Greene has arrived with Patches, Big Dook and Gayest Son.

Social Credit, in H. E. Russell's stable, pulled up lamo after a gallop yesterday morning and he is an unlikely starter at Woodville. Bronze Flight and Pen have been turned out before beginning a preparation for spring racing in Australia. Courtcraft was exercised and he shows no sign of the lameness which kept him out of F. W. Davis' team for Waikato. VICTORIA PARK RACES FAST TIME BY TRIMERCIAN (Kecoived February 15, 9.0 p.m.) SYDNEY, Fob. 15 Tlio New Zealand-bred Rival Hit and Cherry Bar ran unplaced in the first division of the Flying Welter Handicap, six furlongs, which was won by Trimercian in the race record time of 1.12-J at the Victoria Park races to-day^ Silver Ring and Highborn were unplaced in the chief event, the Victoria Park Handicap.
