SHIPPING COMPANY'S FUTURE Optimism 'regarding the future of the 'New Zealand Shipping Company was expressed 50 years ago in a leading article wliith appeared in the New Zkalanu H khali) of February 16. 1889. The following is an extract: — "'The news" that New Zealand Shipping Company's shares are quoted at £3 in London is pleasant reading. Not very long ago they were scarcely worth as many shillings.: As in the case of the Bank-of New Zealand, the full investigation of the affairs of the company has served to demonstrate its inherent soundness ami the value of its business, notwithstanding past mismanagement of the most pronounced character. The recent report on the affairs of the shipping company lias cleared the nay, ifnd oven the company's most bitter opponent has had to admit that it ha 6 a fair •future before it. That this opinion is concurred in by the financial world at Home is proved by the,, steady advance in the value of the company's shares, and we trust soon to hear of their reaching a higher figure." .
