The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Govern, ment meteorologist last evening as follows: —Yesterday's depressionspassed rapidly eastward and-an aritU cyclone is advancing across the Tasmah Sea. The forecast is for strong, but gradually decreasing southwesterly winds tending westerly later about and south of Cook Strait. Seas rather rough at many places, with a considerable swell south of East Cape'but gradually decreasing, except in'the far south. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to fresh south-westerly winds, veerinz to west and later north-west in the central and southern portions; seas moderate to rather rough. Some scattered rains are probable in the north, ern half of the North Island, and parts of coastal areas elsewhere, but the falls should be mostly light,' and the weather generally improving. Dunedin.—The sun shone - brightly, but there were numerous passing clouds and several sharp rain showers. Ternperatures varied from cool to warm, the maximum for the day being 67 degrees. There was a fresh breeze from the south-west. The barometer rose to 29.70 in.
