HASTINGS MAN'S DEATH

VERDICT AT THE INQUEST [by telegraph—own correspondent] HASTINGS, Wednesday An inquest into the death of Duncan McLean, who was found dead with a wound in his throat at his home on January 31, was opened before the district coroner. Mr. G. Ebbctt, this morning. A verdict of suicide while mentally deranged was returned. Evidence was given that deceased was in financial difficulties and worried over the illness of his wife. Although deceased had severely beateyi his eldest son before taking his own life, the boy stated in 'evidence that he had always been a good father. The coroner was of the opinion that deceased did not realise what he was doing at the time the assault.
