NEW SPORTS STADIUM
PROPOSAL FOR HAMILTON GALLOWAY PARK SELECTED | FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON. Wednesday A scheme to build a sports stadium at Galloway Park, Hamilton East, at an approximate cost of £5733. was approved at last night's meeting of the Hamilton Domain Board. The expense of the new ground, which will accommodate more than 37,000 spectators, is to be borne by the Hamilton Borough Council, the Waikato County Council and the Waipa County Council.
Notices are to be served on the respective councils immediately, and it is hoped that the matter will be finalised at a special meeting of the Domain Board next week. In the absence of the chairman, Mr W. H. Paul, Mr F. A. Swarbrick presided. The local bodies are to be asked to contribute that portion of the cost not covered by a Government grant, less the £IOOO to be found by the Domain Board. Of the local bodies' share, the Hamilton Borough Council will be asked to meet two-thirds and the county councils one-sixth each. It was also decided to have plans prepared for a larger grandstand and the matter will be considered at next week's meeting.
