SUGGESTION FOR EXCHANGE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] PALMERSTON NORTH, Wednesday "That the association take steps .to promote tho exchange of library personnel within this and other countries," was a remit carried at the conference of the New Zealand Libraries Association to-day. The council was instructed to consider the possibility in Now Zealand of making use of tho interest and sympathy of people outside the library profession, on the lines of the English and American Friends of the Library movement. The tendency in many quarters to consider that the provision of light recreational reading alone was sufficient to justify the existence of tho public library, thereby obscuring the necessity for a constructive policy, resulted in tho passing of a remit emphasising the social responsibilities of libraries.
