OVERSEAS TRADE
ENCOURAGEMENT IN BRITAIN MEETING MODERN CONDITIONS (Received February 3, 6.5 p.m.) British- Wireless LONDON, Feb. 2 The House of Commons to-day gave the second reading to tho bill providing for taking a census of production, and finished tho committee stage of tho bill extending the powers of tho Board of Trade to give a guarantee up to a maximum of £75,000,000 instead of £50,000,000 as at present for establishing or encouraging overseas trade. Replying to tho debate, Mr. R. S. Hudson, Party Secretary of Overseas Trade, said the new increase in capital commitments of tho export credits guarantee fund since the bill was introduced last December was £1,500,000. At that time there was a balance of about £0,000,000 available under tho old maximum. How long tho new maximum would suffice depended on the degree to which industries availed themselves of these facilities. He reminded tho House that his department was urging upon tho export industries tho desirability of organising themselves to meet modern conditions in the world markets.
