Mrs. Wii has three young children and resided with her family at Horahora, a Maori settlement on the east coast. : Mrs. Wii left her home about 11 o'clock this morning, intending to ride to Pataua, another native settlement to visit friends. To get to Pataua she had to cross the river near its mouth She was last seen going toward the' ford, which is about four feet deep. Shortly after two o'clock, Mr. John Mallabond, who lives near Ocean? Beach, saw the body floating in deep water below the ford and went out in his boat and brought it ashore. Attempts at artificial respiration proved unsuccessful. •' The Whangarei police were notified and Detective G. S. Miller and Con. stable 11. T. J. McNeill journeyed to Pataua, a distance of about 30 miles and brought the body to Whangarei late this evening. An inquest will be opened to-inorrow before the district coroner, Mr. G. H. Morrish.
