WINTER MILK

PRECAUTIONARY PLAN SUPPLIES FROM WAIUKU AGREEMENT WITH THE COUNCIL In case there is a shortage of milk during the coming winter, the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council decided yesterday to go farther afield for its supplies. According to a new arrangement, suppliers of the Aka Aka Dairy Company, Waiuku, will be able to send not loss than 600 gallons daily to the city.

The council was informed by the technical adviser that the Aka Aka farmers were prepared to supply an Auckland distributing firm with milk at any time there was a shortage. This would be done at the council's rates, plus 3d a gallon for cartage, and the group was prepared to accept the usual proportion of milk supplied to schools at the customary rate. Although the milk would be brought a considerable distance, no premium price would have to be paid, and excess cartage would be borne by the farmers. They were prepared to supply at any time when called upon, provided not less than 600 gallons a day were taken.

The opinion was expressed that the 600 gallons would not be an over-supply to make up winter deficiencies, and there was the possibility that an even greater outside supply would be required. Upon the motion of the chairman, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, it was decided to inform the farmers that if applications for temporary licences were made they would receive favourable consideration from the council.
