RANSFORD'S APPOINTMENT BRADMAN'S CONGRATULATIONS [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, Jan. 19 The former test cricketer Mr. Vernon Ransford. was appointed by the committeo of the Melbourne Cricket Club yesterday to be secretary of the club, at a salary of £IOOO a year. He succeeds Mr. Hugh Trumble, another famous cricketer, who died on August 14 last year. Mr. Ransford was chosen from a large number of applicants, including Australia's test captain, D. G. Bradman, who has been employed iu a stockbroking business in Adelaide for the last few years. Mr. Ransford, who is extremely popular, is 53 ' years old. He was one of Australia's finest left-handed batsmen, and one of the best outfielders. He toured England as a member of tho Australian team in 1909 and scored 143 not out in the test at Lord's. Ho played in 15 tost matches against England, and aggregated 893 runs for an average of 38.82. ?
