OVERCAST WITH RAIN FLOODS IN BAY OF PLENTY The tvoather report and forecast for Now Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows;—A cyclone of moderate intensity is centred to the west of the Auckland Peninsula. Pressure is high, however, over the South Island and the south Tasman Sea, hut a new depression has advanced on to Tasmania. The forecast is for south-easterly winds in the central portion of the country, otherwise mainly easterly to north-easterly, moderate to strong from Cook Strait norhtward with gales at times in some exposed positions, elsewhere light to moderate, hut a change to freshening northerlies later in the south. Seas rough north of East Cape, moderate lo rather rough elsewhere north of Cook Strait, and slight to moderate south of Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea; Strong easterly winds to gales in the northern portion, with rough seas; light variable winds in the southern portion, but tending north-westerly later in the far south, with wind and sea increasing. The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast over the North Island with further rain in central and northern districts and misty rain possibly extending later as far as Nelson and Marlborough. Some flooding is likely in the Mawke's Bay-Bay of Plenty area. Conditions should he fair to fine over the South Island, but clouding over later in the south-west. Moderate temperatures. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST UNSETTLED, WITH RAIN The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkiiald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: Fresh to strong east to south-east winds, reaching gale force in places, hut decreasing. The weather is likely to be unsettled, with rain at times. Moderate temperatures. Seas rough on the east coast and oit'-shoro on the west coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Steady rain, accompanied by a strong easterly wind at times registering gale force, was experienced yesterday. Dunedin. —The day was fine and warm, the sun shining from a clear sky. The temperature reached a maximum of 68 degrees. The barometer, after falling in the morning, was later rising at 30.00 in.
