FLOOD OF TELEGRAMS

BUSY CHRISTMAS WEEK FURTHER RUSH TO-DAY Telegraphic traffic at Auckland in the week before Christmas was even heavier this year than last. A total of 268,154 telegrams was handled, as compared with 256,279 in the corresponding period in 1937. Christmas Eve telegrams totalled 100,680 this year. Of these it is estimated that 75 per cent contained Christmas greetings. An augmented staff will be on duty to-day to cope with tlie expected rush of New Year greeting telegrams. Experience has shown that Christmas Eve conditions are repeated on a smaller scale on December 31.
